Random Acts of Kindness Day is February 17th. While every day is another opportunity to be kind to others, this day was created to encourage random acts of kindness. Below are some ideas of how to get involved in this day.
Text, call, or send a letter to a friend or loved one to let them know you are thinking of them.
If someone in your life isn't able to leave the house often, such as an elderly neighbor, consider doing something kind for them, like making a meal, baking something, writing a card, or stopping in for a visit. You may not realize how much a random act of kindness like this could mean to someone.
If there is a local nonprofit or charity that you are passionate about, consider donating your time or supplies.
Organizations like animal shelters often have a list of needed supplies through sites like Amazon or on their website and are often in need of volunteers to help with various tasks.
Monetary donations to such organizations are also an idea for those that can provide them and feel the urge to do so.
If you know of someone, whether they are a classmate, friend, or family member, who has been through a hard time, think of ways to support or cheer them up.
Inviting them to your house to play their favorite video game or watch their favorite movie, writing them an encouraging note, and bringing them their favorite snack are just a few ideas.
Do something kind for a neighbor, like bringing in their trash cans, leaving them a kind note, or baking them something and bringing it by their house.
If you have a busy family member or loved one, offer to help them in whatever way you can. Offer to help them cook dinner, do the dishes, help with extra chores, or make them something: a baked good, craft, or painting, or write them a poem to let them know how much you appreciate them.
Put up inspirational sticky notes around your school, work, or neighborhood.
Take a few minutes out of the day to practice self-care or self-love. Do something that brings you joy, whether treating yourself to a drink from your favorite coffee shop, taking a trip to your favorite bookstore or video game store, or treating yourself to a spa day at home.
