National Pretzel Lovers Day

Like Stanley Hudson, we are all excited for Pretzel Day, but April 24th is not just a day for lovers of the comedic television show The Office; It's a day for anyone that enjoys the traditional snack of a pretzel. Although, I would definitely recommend watching the "Pretzel Day" episode of The Office in season 3, episode 5.

Did you know there are two kinds of pretzels?

Hard pretzels:

Hard pretzels are a common snack that German immigrants in Pennsylvania are credited for inventing. Did you know that the average person consumes about two pounds of these delicious, crunchy, salty snacks per year?

Soft pretzels:

Soft pretzels are a traditional snack identified with their unique knot shape. French monks in 610 A.D. twisted this shape to represent praying hands. Soft pretzels are commonly served as an American snack at sporting games and other events.

That's a lot of pretzels!

Governor Ed Rendell declared pretzel day in 2003 because of Pennsylvania's overwhelming love for pretzels. Pennsylvanians eat more pretzels per year than people in any other state. They eat about 12 pounds per person per year!

Why you should celebrate

You should celebrate national Pretzel Lovers Day because pretzels are delicious! Also, celebrating the small things in life we enjoy can open up opportunities for us to break the monotony of daily life and celebrate the little things in life that make us happy. Let April 24th not only be about celebrating love for pretzels but also about enjoying a change of pace and self-care.

So, on April 24th, if you're a pretzel lover, go out and get yourself a sweet and salty treat from Auntie Anne's or Wetzel's Pretzel's and always remember to live every day like it is pretzel day!
