Finals are almost here, and I can feel the Christmas break excitement coming on! I'm so ready for classes to end. This semester has felt like a nonstop rollercoaster ride. I can hardly find a minute to breathe with all the readings, projects, and papers piling up. I know college is meant to be tough, but some days, I feel like I'm drowning in assignments and deadlines. There are just two more weeks left; however, after two more weeks, I can finally kick back and not worry about work hanging over my head.
Work's been a bit exhausting, too, but I still have a good time with it. Tutoring in the English department is super rewarding, but even the students seem pretty beat lately. They come in looking like they're just over it, and I get it. I feel the same way! We're all running low on energy. I try to remind them that the finish line is right there. Sometimes, I can make them laugh or boost their confidence a bit before they head out. Plus, there's something cool about helping them tackle the same kind of assignments that are stressing me out, too. It feels like we're all in this end-of-semester slump together.
What keeps me going is the thought that soon, I'll be home. I can already picture it: me in my coziest pajamas, snuggled up on the couch with a big mug of hot cocoa, ready to binge-watch Christmas movies. I can't wait! This time of year brings me so much comfort, and I've got all my faves picked out. A Christmas Prince is an absolute must, a holiday romantic comedy movie that tells the story of Amber, an ambitious young journalist who travels to the fictional kingdom of Aldovia to cover the story of its crown prince, Richard, who is set to take the throne and is seen as a playboy unfit for the role, Richard surprises Amber with his depth and kindness. While Amber poses as a tutor to get an inside scoop, she discovers secrets about the royal family and her growing feelings for Richard. Then, there's The Princess Switch, another holiday romantic comedy about Stacy, a talented Chicago baker who travels to the fictional kingdom of Belgravia for a prestigious baking competition. There, she encounters Lady Margaret, a duchess who looks exactly like her. Seeking a break from her royal duties, Margaret convinces Stacy to switch places for a few days. As they enter each other's lives, both women find unexpected romance. Stacy, with a prince, and Margaret, with Stacy's best friend. It's ridiculous and fun, just begging for hot cocoa and a big bowl of popcorn. And, of course, I can't forget Dr. Seuss' The Grinch. It's such a classic and always warms my heart as I watch the Grinch's heart grow three sizes. It reminds me of what Christmas is really about. I've been counting down the days to this break all semester.
Soon, I'll be home with my family, surrounded by Christmas lights and everything I love about the season. I'm almost there. Just a few more weeks until I can dive into my favorite time of year!
