EDUCATION VS EXPERIENCE ...
During my undergraduate years, I would often hear professors say there was a difference between education and experience. They would argue that anyone could go to school and learn all about a specific career; however, students won’t know the reality of the career unless they obtain hands-on experience.
You can take the example of a nursing student. If a nursing student would only take classes about the nursing field yet didn’t go to a hospital to practice what they learned, would you feel comfortable if they drew your blood? I would hope not. Fortunately, our nurses are getting hands-on experience at local hospitals to practice and become an expert in the field. The same goes for students who are interested in mechanics, engineering, psychology, dental assisting, welding, and more.
INTERNSHIPS
This is where internships come into play. Internships are typically short-term work experiences that are offered to students and they help you develop connections with potential employers. The purpose of these internships is to help students gain experience and skills in a specific field of interest. It exposes students to the actual work that they’ll be doing if they decide to go that route. Internships are also important because they help you realize if that is the career that you truly want to pursue.
