Gabriel Ibarra is the winner of the Alta California Chapbook Prize for his poetry collection On Display. In addition, he received an honorable mention for the 2011 Ernesto Trejo Poetry Prize awarded by the Academy of American Poets and judged by the late Philip Levine. He was born and raised in Fresno, California. He attended Fresno City College, earned a Bachelor of Arts in literature and creative writing from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing with an emphasis in poetry from California State University, Fresno. Along with being published by Gun Powder Press, Gabriel’s work his has been published by The Packinghouse Review. A former Reedley College part-time instructor, Mr. Ibarra is a full-time English lecturer at Fresno State and serves as the campus liaison for the Fresno State Creative Writing Alumni Chapter, whose goal is to connect multiple generations of Fresno writers.
